Holy, Moolly - how does one dare to put a reel on those?

Thought I'd post some more photos of the Wojnicki rods. BTW, I think it's interesting how Mario numbers his rods. The 217P4 ,with the still covered
grip, is #10239 which means it was finished on October 23 2009. The 237P4 was completed on April 3, 2008 and the 82 5L on March 4, 2008. Years from now there
won't be any question when Mario's rods were built. It's hard to tell in the photos, but the signature wraps on the 82 5L are done in green
instead of the usual black, maybe to compliment the cherry insert.

Beautiful rods Duff! Nice reels too! What kind of backing is that on the Landex?

Duff,
The tipping is color-coded for the 5 line (green) and P4 (black) rods. John |

Thanks, John. I have a lot to learn about Mario's rods, in fact if you hadn't told me about the date I'd probably not know that either but maybe
have figured it out after the last one. I think the rod shown on Mario's site has red tipping - 6WT? Do you have a brochure/catalog? I only know what I
find on his site.
Skalkaho, I don't have a clue about that backing on the Landex. I came to it after pulling off a shooting head and a mile of mono - kind of neat though. I wind left so will most likely sell that one. Wish it could be switched to LHW or I was more coordinated. |

Erik Peterson, who worked for Mario and Per Brandin, uses similar seats on his bamboo rods - beautiful!

Wonderful!
Does Mario also make a mini pecker grip? I think it looks great but a bit too big on a smaller (<7.6ft) rods. But the alternative, his cigar grip is cute too. Can you tell us how long the grip and the seat are? |

The top rod with the uplocking reel seat could be considered a "mini pecker head" I guess. The reel seats all measure around 3.5". The grip on
the 82 5L is 6.5", the 237P4 is 6.25" and the 217P4 is 5.75" - all proportioned to the rod. The larger "pecker head" is actually on a
7'9" rod and looks fine in person and is supremely comfortable. The photo may distort the size a bit. I ordered the cigar on the 7'2" rod
because I tend to like that type of grip on shorter and lighter rods. On my postage scale, the 82 5L weighs 3.5 oz., the 237P4 weighs 3 oz. and the 217P4
weighs 2.5 oz. I've got to say that I'm very impressed with these rods, especially the parabolics - expensive as the dickens but worth it in my view.

Thanks Duff! Great info.
I have a boo on order at Mario. I'm wondering if I should get a glass rod too. :P I haven't fished my yellow glass Fenwick yet, so I'm not sure if I should be keeping it that way... Probably a lot better for my wallet!

Duff,
Thanks for the pics of the rods. The seats were impressive but in the context of the entire rod, the whole is just indescribably beautiful. Respectfully rvreclus The backing on the Landex looks like braided Dacron. Don't see it much any more.
